The Prophet Muhammad Teaches Peaceful Behavior

Peace of God and His mercy to you.

Many people who did not visit a Muslim country or interact with a Muslim believe that all Muslims are violent and oppressors based on some stories. It is not true. All people make mistakes including the Muslims. But, Islam is a religion that guides. Islam explains to the people what is good and what is bad, what is right and what is wrong, and it guides them to the correct path in many issues of life, such as marriage, trade, family relationships, charity, ... etc. God says about the Muslims in the Holy Quran:
Ye are the best community that hath been raised up for mankind. Ye enjoin right conduct and forbid indecency; and ye believe in Allah. And if the People of the Scripture had believed it had been better for them. Some of them are believers; but most of them are evil-livers. (110) Al Imran 3:110
Be Peaceful
Muslims must be peaceful. 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As, may Allah be pleased with them, said:
A person asked Allah's Messenger (may peace and blessings be upon him) who among Muslims was better. Upon this (the Holy Prophet) remarked: One from whose hand and tongue Muslims are safe. Source: al-islam
Do not be hostile, even in war. 'Abdullah bin Abi Aufa's Hadith, may Allah be pleased with him:
Abu Al-Nadr narrated from a book that was sent by a man from Aslam tribe, who was a Companion of the Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) and whose name was 'Abdullah bin Abi Aufa, to 'Umar bin 'Ubaidullah when the latter marched upon Haruriyah (Khawarij) informing him that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) in one of those days when he was confronting the enemy waited until the sun had declined. Then he stood up (to address the people) and said: O you men, do not wish for an encounter with the enemy. Pray to Allah to grant you security; (but) when you (have to) encounter them, exercise patience, and you should know that Paradise is under the shadows of the swords. Then the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) stood up (again) and said: O Allah, Revealer of the Book, Dispenser of the clouds, Defeater of the hordes, put our enemy to rout and grant us victory over them. We should not be suspicious of each other and spy on each other. Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Avoid suspicion, for suspicion is the gravest lie in talk and do not be inquisitive about one another and do not spy upon one another and do not feel envy with the other, and nurse no malice, and nurse no aversion and hostility against one another. And be fellow-brothers and servants of Allah. Source: al-islam
Each person must treat the other well, even if s/he oppressed him/her. Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
Two young men, one from the Muhajirin (Emigrants) and the other one from the Ansar (Helpers) fell into dispute and the Muhajir or the Muhajirin called his fellow Muhajirin, and the Ansari (the helper) called the Ansar (for help). In the meanwhile, Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) came there and said: What is this, the proclamation of the days of Jahiliyah (ignorance)? They said: Allah's Messenger, there is nothing serious. The two young men fell into dispute and the one struck at the back of the other. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Well, a person should help his brother whether he is an oppressor or an oppressed. If he is the oppressor he should prevent him from doing it, for that is his help; and if he is the oppressed he should be helped (against oppression). Source: al-islam

When you disagree with a person and your disagreement turns into a fight, try to stop and do not attempt to hit the other on the face.
Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: When anyone of you fights with his brother he should avoid striking at the face. Source: al-islam

And we do not forget to mention the Prophet's sermon known as the Farewell Sermon:
O People, listen well to my words, for I do not know whether, after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present today.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, and this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take usury (riba), therefore all interest obligations shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn 'Abd'al Muttalib (Prophet's uncle) shall henceforth be waived.

Every right arising out of homicide in pre-Islamic days is henceforth waived and the first such right that I waive is that arising from the murder of Rabi`ah ibn al Harith ibn `Abd al Muttalib.

O Men, the Unbelievers indulge in tampering with the calendar in order to make permissible that which God forbade, and to forbid that which God has made permissible. With God the months are twelve in number. Four of them are sacred, three of these are successive and one occurs singly between the months of Jumada and Sha`ban. Beware of Shaitan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, perform your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your financial obligation. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor does a black have any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.

Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or messenger will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things: the Qur’an and my example, the Sunnah and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed your message to your people. Source: Wikipedia

Islam is derived from silm which means peace. Many Arabic words are derived from silm including salam (peace), istislam (submission), salama (safe), and saleem (safe and sound).
